Happy Monday! I hope you all had a lovely pride weekend. NYC was definitely alive this weekend, and I’m still recovering, so not Hot Takes today.
Here are some standouts in today’s newsletter:
As reported by the AP, The UN High Commissioner for human rights, Michelle Bachelet, published a report that urges countries worldwide to do more to help end discrimination, violence and systemic racism against people of African descent and “make amends” to them — including through reparations.
As previously highlighted, a Virginia seminary is paying $2,100 to the descendants of workers who were never paid over a span of 50 years. The story is a good example of how to utilize genealogists for reparations payments.
Robin DiAngelo, author of ‘White Fragility,’ published a new book called ‘Nice Racism,’ which details how well-intentioned White people unwittingly reinforce racism.
We’re going to start publishing interviews with folks across the reparations advocacy field. If you or someone you know may be interested in being interviewed, send an email to tsmith@reparationslab.org
With radical love,
Trevor
