Happy Wednesday! I hope that you all are well as we approach this long weekend.
No Hot Takes today, but here are some of the biggest developments since Monday:
The House passed a bill to remove Confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol. A monumental step, just 6 months after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, some of whom were carrying the Confederate flag.
BET founder, Robert Johnson, is going on what seems like a media tour to uplift his call on the U.S. to pay reparations citing the $14 trillion figure in the chapter of our forthcoming book.
Rachelle Zola completed her 40-day hunger strike. We’ll be interviewing her in the coming weeks for Reparations Daily (ish)!
Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, talks about “reparative and restorative,” justice when discussing solutions for the I-81 project in Syracuse. I recently penned a co-authored op-ed with my former colleague at the NYCLU on the decimation of other prosperous Black neighborhoods on the 100th anniversary of Tulsa. I have a feeling he read it ;)
With radical love,
Trevor
