Reparations Daily (ish) Vol. 8
"Am I willing to die for my brothers and sisters when there is an injustice?"
Happy Friday! We reached our goal and are now a 100+ member community! Thank you for sending the newsletter to your friends, family, and coworkers, I hope you continue to do so!
If you have off today, I hope you have a chance to dive into most of the below articles. If you don’t, I hope you can find 15 minutes to read this Chicago Tribune article about an elderly white woman named Rachelle Zola who has been on a month-long hunger strike in the name of reparations for Black Americans.
As most of the conversation over the next few days will be focused on Juneteenth becoming the newest federal holiday, I hope you can tell one person about Rachelle’s inspiring story.
There is obviously an uptick in coverage around the issues this newsletter cares about, so today’s is pretty lengthy. Here is a summary of what’s happened since Wednesday.
June 19, otherwise known as Juneteenth, is the latest federal holiday. 14 House Republicans voted against the bill that made it happen.
A 73-year-old white woman has been on a 30-day hunger strike for reparations and has no plans of stopping anytime soon.
The Sierra Club endorses the idea of reparations for Black Americans.
The reparations taskforce in California held their first meeting.
No hot takes today, just vibes.
With radical love,
Trevor
